My next show uses colours that are electric, neon and vibrant: Bright Electric Beasts

“Knowing that I could use colour in a new way, I selected a range of animals that had interesting textures and shapes. I have made a new body of work using a combination of drawing on textured paper and inverting the colouring using Photoshop. Each image was originally drawn using traditional pencil techniques. The images where then digitally enhanced by saturating colours.

Additional surface decoration was added using Procreate soft ware. The faces of the animals have been carefully rendered to add character and humour.

The process of creating these lively animals brought me much joy and made me smile broadly every time I saw the final prints. The colourful framing is integral to the finished work.

This year I discovered that my story wasn't going to be pursued by a TV company ‘New Pictures’ who were making a docudrama about Peter Sutcliffe, The Yorkshire Ripper entitled ‘The Long Shadow’.

I embraced the dark hole of exclusion this left inside me and filled it with colour. While the company editing the film I entertained my self, drawing these delightful animals. The trailers for the docudrama will be broadcast on ITV while the exhibition is up. I have provided a strong counterbalance to being reminded of the horrors of the past.”
